DIET PLAN :-
- 6:00am: 100ml milk (skimmed milk) with protein power (Nepro HP) (without sugar) (Horlicks, boost, Bournvita should be avoided)
- 8:00am: Idly (60g) (3)/Dosa (80-85g) 2no/ chapatti (60g) 2no /suji / vermicelli upma (2cups)/ Uttappam (50g) 2 no+ (soak overnight all vegetables and cook) sambar (1/2 cup) /veg curry
- 11:00am: Oats porridge (45g) (1/2cup)/barley porridge (1 cup)/ anyone fruit (100g) (apple, guava, pear, papaya) +2egg white
- 1:00pm: Phulka (50g) 2 no or brown rice (100g cooked) +thin dal (1 cup, only lentil) + curd (1/2 cup) (Vegetable curry from below list (1cup) + chicken or fish (50g) curry/ tofu (50g)/soya (20g)
- 4:30pm: Bhel /poha (2 cup)/pop -corn (roosted)/ paneer (25g) sandwich.
- 8:00pm: Cabbage, cucumber salad + Phulka (50g) 2no /Daliya upma (2 cup) +curd (1cup) + (vegetable curry from below list (I cup)
- 10:00pm: Milk (skimmed milk) /butter milk (100ml) without salt.

Food Can Include :
- Moderate glycemic index foods: Brown rice, brown bread, oats, barley, buck wheat, puffed & poha
- Low potassium or leached vegetables such as: Bottle gourd, Snake gourd, Ridge gourd, Bitter gourd, Pumpkin, Radish, Cabbage, Kovai, capsicum, Cucumber, corn, onion, parwar, tinda, beans scarlets , zucchini.
- Fruits : Apple, papaya, pear, guava.
Foods given moderately :
- Whole cereals, pulses & legumes (pulses and legumes can be leached in some cases)
- Chicken, fish, milk, curd, fleshy foods, ginger, garlic, mint leaves, curry leaves, ladies’ finger, broad beans, Turnip, gouge leaves, fenugreek leaves.
Food to be Avoid:
- Sugar, honey, jaggery, jams, sweets, bakery products, sweetened juices, candy bars, soups.
- Roots and tubers like potato, sweet potato, beetroot, yam, colacasia
- Salted butter, cheese, papads, pickles, processed foods, Fried foods ex: puri, vadai, bonda, chips
- Green leafy vegetables, whole fruits(100g/day)
- High potassium foods: Amaranth, coriander, drumstick leaves, spinach, lotus stem, nuts, coffee, cocoa powder, cumin seeds, coconut water.
- Fruits: Banana, mango, sweet -lime, jack fruit, sapota, grapes, Amla, watermelon, cherries Avoid fruits juices, ragi malt, soups.
- Alcoholic Beverages & Aerated Drinks
Leaching method :-
- Clean and cut the vegetables.
- Cook for 10- to 15 minutes in water.
- Discard the water from them again repeat the same and use the vegetables for cooking.
Dietary Tips :-
- Eat well balanced meals that contain a source of carbohydrate, proteins and fats.
- Protein allowed 1.2g/kg body weight per day for patients on dialysis.
- Choose proteins that have high biological value foods ex: egg white, chicken , fish.
- Choose healthy fat options and limit saturated fats, cholesterol is Restricted to <200mg/day.
- Use 4 tsp of cooking oil per day/(500ml/month )
- Include fruits 100g/day (if potassium is normal)
- Dietary salt should be restricted 2g/ day and patient with hypertension 1.5g/day.
- Limit the salt used in cooking and do not add salt at the table.
- Add herbs and spices to enhance the flavor of the foods in place of salt ex: a dash of lime, garlic, vinegar etc.
- A Potassium intake is limited to 2500mg /day for dialysis. Low potassium foods should be included (or can be leached).
- All animal food are rich in potassium and phosphorus hence moderation should be followed.
Dietary Tips (fluid):
- Avoid excess fluid intake.
- Do not drink large amount of fluids at a time.
- Be mindful of the amount of fluids you are consuming.
- Avoid tea, coffee, rasam, soups, Tender coconut, water juice (because it contain fluid).
- Solid foods like watermelons & milk and curd (150-200ml) contain lot of water follow in moderation.
- Amount of fluid allowed in the diet varies from person to person and depends on 500ml+ urine output.
- A Dialysis patient can take a fluid less than one liter/day.
